YOUR WORK SAMPLES:
Original Music:
Submit up to two work samples of any music in your creative practice. At least one work sample should be written for a minimum of four instruments (duplicates allowed) from within the following instrumentation:
- mezzo-soprano
- piccolo/flute/alto flute
- clarinet/bass clarinet
- alto/tenor/baritone saxophone
- violin
- viola
- cello
- piano/synthesizer
- percussion
Each work sample should include:
- A PDF of the Full Score
- Representative sample audio and/or video of the work. Accurate MIDI realizations of acoustic works are acceptable if no live recording is available.
Both audio and video samples should be hosted on a streaming (YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, etc.) or cloud (Dropbox Google Drive, Box, etc.) service and not uploaded directly into the application portal.
Audio Demo Reel:
The following is a link to a video draft reel from THE EMPRESS OF DANCE. For this reel, submit up to three different audio samples that demonstrate your potential approach to the reel’s soundtrack. These three samples may be highly contrasting in their approach and may come from any of the following:
- The creation and recording of new music for the reel. An accurate representative MIDI realization of this music is acceptable if a live recording would be impractical.
- A recording or spliced recording of your existing work(s) that you believe best represents the reel. An accurate representative MIDI realization of an existing work is acceptable if no live recording is available. Segments from the Original Music submission above may be used again if needed.
- A link to an existing recording, partial recording, or spliced multiple recordings of any music publicly available that you believe best represents how you would approach the reel’s soundtrack.
It is not required that you combine your audio samples with the demo reel, but you may do so if you wish. Regardless, the audio file should sync and match directly with the demo reel (0:00 in the audio file should align with 0:00 with the demo reel).
Audio and/or video samples should be hosted on a streaming or cloud service and not uploaded directly into the application portal.
From the Director:
I’m looking for the score to tell the same story that David is in this interview, not only emotionally but also in how the music interacts with the pacing, cuts, and dialogue. Think of this as a compatibility test between your score and my editing!
There’s a lot of emotional/aesthetic tones in David’s story, but the particular ones I want to emphasize are these: 1) inspiration, 2) introspection, and 3) triumph (think grand! think royal!)
These three tones can mean different things to different artists, I’m looking forward to hearing what your musical interpretation is of those feelings.
