On December 4, 2014, at 7pm, Versipel New Music will present a program of contemporary works composed exclusively by living Louisiana composers at Cafe Istanbul.
Influenced by technology, world events, relationships, nature and memory, these works represent a cross-section of modern-day concerns, inspirations and musical styles. Whether native Louisianans, or adopted Louisianans, composers who have made their homes here are an eclectic bunch, so come on out and hear some fresh homegrown new music!
This diverse program will feature 21st century chamber music by Louisiana composers Stephen David Beck, Colin Kemper, Rick Snow, Mendel Lee, Greg Robin, Stephen Suber, Vanissa Law, Elliot Downey and Nick Hwang performed by The Versipel Collective (Katalin Lucács, piano (Tulane University); Laura Patterson, flute (Make Music NOLA); Unkyoung Kim, violin/viola (Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana University); Elise Butler-Pinkham, cello; Philip Schuessler, conductor (Southeastern Louisiana University); Alex Morano, clarinet (Loyola); Brittany Piatz, percussion; Mendel Lee, percussion (Tulane)).
