Season 3: 2016-2017
November 10, 2016: Versipel Collective I: Pulses and Lines

January 24, 2017: Visiting Artist Series I: In the Shade
Join Versipel New Music for a special event featuring Australian cellist Geoffrey Gartner in a solo recital that juxtaposes a masterpiece of the Baroque with the multi-sensory music of the present. This event features the world premiere of an interactive installation for cello and electronics by New Orleans composer Rick Snow entitled In the Shade. During this performance, the sonorous timbres of the cello are blended in real-time with three, spatially disposed resonant sound sculptures, filling the unique space of the Marigny Opera House. Audience members are invited to walk around the hall, immersing themselves in shifting, reverberant soundscapes. With evocative lighting to match, this will truly be a feast for the senses!
This immersive experience will be complemented by a performance of Bach’s Suite IV for unaccompanied cello, placing the past and present in stark relief.
7pm: Audience is invited to interact with the In the Shade installation
7:30: cello performance begins
Tickets: Suggested donation $20 adults, $5 students/seniors/hardship
