Versipel’s first concert will feature New York City performers Mike McCurdy and Christa Van Alstine performing cutting-edge new works and world premieres by two Louisiana composers.

To launch our concert series, we are planning a unique show. For the very first Versipel concert, we will feature two New York-based performers – Mike McCurdy, percussion (Mantra Percussion) and Christa Van Alstine, clarinet/bass clarinet (Red Light New Music, Hotel Elefant, Wet Ink Ensemble), who will perform world premieres by Louisiana composers Philip Schuessler and Kari Besharse written specifically for this concert. Additionally, Mike and Christa will perform several other works from their repertoires together as a duo and separately as soloists, the majority of which will be Louisiana premieres. Finally, Christa and Mike will come together with members of the Versipel Collective to perform a couple of pieces as a larger ensemble. The concert will take place at the Marigny Opera House, a unique venue that is supportive of modern art and music on October 9, 2014. Additionally, in the days leading up to the Versipel launch concert, Mike and Christa will be giving several talks and workshops to music students at Southeastern Louisiana University and at other venues.
